A Room Outside of Time - Installed in Calarts Wavecave in 2023
I have heard many quiet yet beautiful harmonies in far off machine and human noises. I have many memories during tests in middle and high school (the truest silence known in those places) of just sitting and listening to a ghostly harmony that no one else seems to hear. I always wondered if the sound was actually there or in my mind, or a combination of the two. A space between the social human reality and some stray cosmic vibrations - a room outside of time. I created this space to explore this timeless phenomenon for people to sit in and explore.
Description
There are 6 cassette machines playing loops hanging down through the metal sculpture. There are 6 corresponding pedestals around the room each holding a knob that affects the speed and pitch of one cassette machine. These knobs are for the participants to turn and alter the space.
